With fall fast approaching, I decided to put together a list of the top fall runs within Winnipeg to keep us all motivated with some goals in mind. I’ve included a variety of distances so there’s something for everyone.
September 13: Winnipeg 10 & 10
This is a race I’ve wanted to run for the last 2 years but something always gets in the way. You can lace up those runners and enjoy a scenic route of 30 km, 10 km or a 10 miler that starts and ends in Memorial Park. It’s a certified course with a chip time and includes post race food and beverages. It will definitely be on my list to do next year.
September 20: 35th Terry Fox Run 10km | 5km| 3km
The Run, an all-inclusive family-oriented activity, charges no entry fee or minimum pledge amount. Participants can run, walk, blade or bike in the company of those who believe their efforts are making a difference with cancer research. There will be a 3km, 5km and 10km run in support of cancer research. I don’t think there is a better cause than that. I’m hoping to run this one with the whole family this year which take place at Assiniboine Park.
September 27: Ted’s run for literacy 10km | 5km| 2km
Also known as the little race that could, Ted’s run for literacy supports CanU. It offers a 2km, 5km and 10km course giving plenty of option to enjoy. Also note that the 10km course is chip timed while the 2km and 5km are fun events. I plan to run the 2km run with Chase this year.
October 2-3: Lemming loop
The only Manitoba timed looped course. This is for the ultra runners out there! Perhaps one day I will be brave enough to run this race. It offers 4 events which are 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours or the craziest one of all, 24 hours of straight running. In addition to the typical aid station fare you would find at an ultra, they have a great BBQ to fill you up when the race is over.
October 4: CIBC Run for a cure | 5km
Each year, hundreds of thousands of Canadians participate in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure and help to raise funds for important breast cancer research, education, and advocacy initiatives. This run holds a very special place in my heart because it was the very first 5km race I ever trained for. The atmosphere is so inspiring and uplifting! I can’t say enough great things about the event. If you are just getting into running this is the race for you.
October 18: 4th Annual WFPS Half Marathon | 10km | 5km
A race organized by runners for runners. This is my BIG race this year. I love the WFPS! Its well run, has a great course, is the perfect time of year and this year it has a PR bell! Which hopefully….maybe I will ring. All proceeds raised go directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, another great cause to support. There is still plenty of time to get your training in for this event but if you haven’t already registered it might be too late because this year’s event 100% sold out.
Are you running any fall races?
Which one is your favorite?
