I have to admit, I’m on a bit of a high from the my weekend workout. I’m so grateful I was able to get away and enjoy such an epic experience of mind, body and surf. As some of you know, Chad went away for a guys trip for the weekend and I had to find a sitter for the boys. But here’s the thing, I’m finally okay with that. It has taken me 6 years to get to this point but I’m finally here. I’m letting go of all the mommy guilt and control over the situation. I knew my boys were in great hands (it totally helps that our babysitter rocks) and I never stressed over them while I was gone. It was so liberating!! Don’t get me wrong, I love being a mom but being a stay at home mom is a 24/7 job with no breaks. When I have small windows of opportunity to myself, well I take them. Whether it’s a short run in the evening or a whole weekend away, I’m learning to embrace them, guilt free. And no, that doesn’t make me a bad mom, quiet the opposite. My boys get to see me take time for myself being happy and enjoying life. I come back feeling energized and ready to deal with my crazy little life.
My mind, body and surf experience (here) started Saturday morning so I got up at the ass crack of dawn. I had gotten all my stuff prep the night before so my morning went pretty smoothly. I was able to eat breakfast and get out the door by 6:45 am. I met up with my friend Sara and we drove down to Grand Beach together. We arrived just before 8 am giving us enough time to use the washroom and meet up with the group for the run. Lululemon had planned a 5 km group run that we joined. Sara is running a half marathon next month so she need to get a longer run in so we extended our run to 8 miles. We ran along the beach, through the trails and along the water line. We chatted and caught up on life. I have’t had such an easy fun run in a while and I loved every minute of it.
We arrived back at the beach for the November project with enough time to eat a quick snack and change into some dry clothes. We walked down to the beach and were greeted with hugs and warm greetings from the group. If you’ve never been to a November project workout (here), you really should. The community they’ve created is so amazing and welcoming. For an hour straight we did burpees, push ups, sprints and more, all barefoot in the sand. It was brutal but fabulous all at the same time.
After the workout we headed down the beach to meet up with the group for SUP yoga. We hopped on a paddle board and headed out onto the water. We got about 15 feet from shore and anchored our boards. We were then guided through a fantastic yoga practice. We had the sweetest yoga instructor which made the experience even better. The only downside was the rain. It had rained on and off all morning but it really started pouring during the final savasana. By the end I was freezing yet so rejuvenated.
Whew that was crazy but I can honestly say it was an epic morning of greatness. I feel like I can take on the world. I learned never to be afraid of the unknown because you’ll never know what you’ll get to experience. Also take time for yourself. Love yourself enough to take care of your mind, body and soul. You are worth it!
Do you make time for yourself? Does it leave you with mommy guilt?
