This week has flown by and I have been enjoying every minute of it. Both boys are finally done school for the summer break which means a lot more fun. I intend to not take one second of this summer for granted. My boys are growing way to fast, soon they won’t think it’s cool to hang out with their mom.
My plan for the summer is lots of beach days, splash pads and bike rides. If some of those bike rides happen to pass by an ice cream shop I can’t be blamed if we stop in and enjoy a treat, can I? So I guess I should add ice cream to that list. We will be hitting up the skate park because my oldest got a skateboard for his birthday and is dying to try it out. We can’t forget to go to the zoo and the children’s museum. We also have a week planned to go to my husband’s family cottage. I want to be present and patient with my kids. I love being their mom and I don’t want to blink and it be over. These are the days I hoped for when I wanted kids. Long summer days with sunshine and laughter.
With the longer days and warmer weather also brings more outdoor running. I have been joining a local running group weekly for a evening run at 6:00pm. The only problem is my body is used to running in the morning. I’ve had some issues with the later runs which caused me to have stomach aches. Not fun right? I was trying to eat my dinner early, around 4 so to have time for it digest but it didn’t work. The last couple of weeks I have been drinking a protein smoothie and haven’t experienced any issues. I decided to share my recipe with you lovely people in case anyone was having the same problem.
Green Summer Smoothie:
makes 1 serving
- 1 scoop vega protein powder (or protein powder of choice)
- 1 cup of frozen fruit (I used blueberries today but I tend to switch it up with mixed berries or pineapple)
- 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk (or water)
- 1 tbsp peanut butter (or any nut butter)
- 2 handfuls of fresh spinach
- Put the ingredients into a blender in order listed above.
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour in a glass and enjoy.
What do you like to eat before a run?
