Hey all! I’m a little late on posting this week as I’ve had a hard time getting back into the swing of things. This past weekend Chad and I went to our friends cabin up on Shoal lake, Ontario. It was great to spend some time with my friends. We went with two other couples that I have know since high school. My parents and Chad’s parents took turns watching the boys so we could enjoy a kid free weekend. I’ve been away from the boys for an extended period but this is the first time in a while for Chad. He has been working a lot lately and it was the perfect opportunity for us to reconnect.
We headed out on Friday night after dinner hoping to get there before it got dark. Unfortunately there was a really bad car accident that shut down the Trans-Canada hwy and we were delayed over an hour. But it didn’t bother me to much because we were in no rush to get there. I was just grateful to get to the cabin safely.
Once we arrived I discovered there was no cell service. Luckily there is a landline in case there was an emergency with the kids and we could be reached. I’m not going to lie, at first I panicked, how was I going to make it without texting, being on facebook, or looking through instagram?! Sounds silly when you say it out loud but I know I’m not the only one. After the second glass of wine I didn’t care to much about cell service or social media. I was having a blast relaxing and connecting in real life.
Over the course of the weekend we had many adventures and a whole lot of fun. The girls and I went for a early morning run on Saturday, then we went on a pontoon boat ride before a storm came in and left us without power for a few hours. We made dinner with candle light and as we sat down to eat the power was restored. The storm passed we were able to go out for a walk and play some card games. On Sunday I got to try out wake boarding. Everyone else had done it before but me. I was really nervous but gave it a try anyways. Turns out I love it. It took me a few tries to get up but once I did it as awesome. I can’t wait to try it out again.
I’m so grateful for the peaceful, uninterrupted weekend we had. It was definitely overdue and I don’t think we will be waiting that long before Chad and I do it again.
Have you ever disconnected from social media? How long did you last?
